A great time was had by all at the recent DB2 GSE events across Europe

Two of our DB2 experts were recently invited to speak at major DB2 events in Europe. The UK and Benelux DB2 User Group meetings are some of the best attended events in the DB2 calendar. Julian Stuhler and Iqbal Goralwalla, who were both awarded the title of IBM Champions earlier this year, were invited to speak at the UK DB2 User Group and the DB2 Benelux User Groups respectively.

Both events were a great success with a fantastic turnout from the ever enthusiastic DB2 community. This is an important time in the world of DB2 with celebrations throughout the year for the 30th anniversary of IBM’s flagship database. To mark the occasion there were celebrations at both GSE events and Iqbal and Julian gave out special edition DB2 Geek 30th anniversary t-shirts to attendees who asked the best questions during their presentations.

Iqbal gave two talks, one on ‘DB2 10.5 with BLU Acceleration: First Impressions’ and one entitled ‘DB2 10.1: Cool DB2 Stuff No One Else is Talking About’.

Iqbal comments: “It was my first time presenting at the BeLux (Belgium and Luxembourg) User Group and it was a great experience. What amazed me was the number of LUW attendees – which was not far off from the attendees in the parallel z/OS tracks. DB2 users had come from various regions (one from Israel as well!) to take part in a day full of great DB2 presentations, networking, and of course to be part of the 30th DB2 anniversary celebrations.”

Julian’s presentation at the UKGSE covered Memory Management in DB2 10 for z/OS.

“It was great to be back presenting to the UK DB2 User Group again, and especially good to see such a healthy attendance from so many different organisations. Once again, I found myself amazed at how DB2 remains so valuable and relevant in it’s 30th year as IBM’s flagship database product. There were some great presentations from DB2 Architect Jeff Josten and fellow Gold Consultant Cristian Molaro, and even some delicious DB2 birthday cake to share and enjoy. Here’s to the next 30 years…” says Julian.
